Pinwheel Tunic Trimmed in Lace

I am back again today with a Pinwheel Tunic from Oliver and S patterns. My daughter requested a few only tops for school this year and the Pinwheel tunic is always a hit with her. I did make this one a wee bit different by using only one fabric for the whole tunic instead of the two and trimmed the flounce in a red lace. I think this would be very lovely with red leggings this autumn as well.   

Just as most the sewing I have done I did make this a size 8 so that it will have plenty of growing room well into next school year. I love ti when all her clothes fit for a long time. She is still wearing a few of her size 5 and 6 this school as well. That is what I love about Oliver and S is the amount of time that she gets for ware out of each garment. 

As always with Oliver and S patterns this was a joy to sew, very relaxing even. I have plans to sew a least two more sets of these on her size along with two more just tunics. I am not sure if you ladies are this way but when I sew a pattern that I thoroughly enjoy I just want to keep sewing them. So much a minimalist wardrobe for Sweet pea! So a warning to you if you have not sewn this pattern it that it is very habit forming as well as the the other O+S ones. ha! 

There is nothing more satisfying of this pattern than that of sewing the flounce onto the bodice portion. I love the no gathering but the point makes it look so professional. Without needing gathering this tunic went together very quickly too. It's a great pattern to sew when you need something in hurry! 

I did also modify the back and added a button loop. I used the button loop pattern piece from the Ice Cream dress as Sweet pea prefers this to the ties. She still just adores her buttons! This one is from Great grandma. 

I also love how this style looks great on the wee ones but also looks great on an older girl. It transitions form age very nicely, I see us using this pattern clear up till she out grows the size range. 

I am back to cutting out Prince C Sketchbook tops!

Forth Of July Sewing and Price C 5th Birthday

First off Happy Late Forth Of July!! I know it has been very quite on here this past year but I cannot believe how busy I have been in life. The kids keep me busy and remodeling the house it taking a lot of time. As summer is half over the thought of back to school sewing is getting into full gear here! Our youngest will be starting a half day of school this autumn so I have at least two children to sew whole wardrobes for! I am planning on things for the older ones as well, they will just have to wear and love it, like it or not. ha! 

First up today is Prince C  Forth outfit. I used my trusty old Sketchbook pattern from Oliver and S. I honestly cannot get enough of this pattern still! I cut out four tops and three shorts so that each piece can be mixed and matched for school. I did cut out a size 4 for the very first time so he will get lots of wear out of each piece. It did have me crying that my baby boy is really wearing the last size now in this pattern. Thank goodness I already own the bigger size! (Although that didn't make me feel at the time of sewing these!) 

Little guy sure has grown up! 

I have sewn so many of these shirts and shorts that I no longer to to read that pattern, ha! I need to recount how many I have made but I know it is over 50. If you have not bought this pattern for you little guy I highly recommend it! It has been a staple for all four of boys. 

Now onto miss Sweet pea's forth o July dress. I used Oliver and S Pinwheel dress pattern, one size bigger than she wears so we will have plenty of school wear out of it. The fabric is very special in that my grandmother sent it to me. She is over the moon for it and has worn it so much that she needs a second one for the wash while she wears this. 

This pattern is a very quick sew and very much fun to make that I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this pattern. Another one I highly recommend! I love that this dress is a two piece, a slip dress with the tunic over top to make the pinwheel skirt. Love! 

I added a white rick rack with red sparkle stitching that goes through the center to the bias tape top for fun scalloped look. 

Sweet epa loves the fit and that it twirls! I love that there was no gathering needed to make the skirts! Sewing was so much faster because of the skirt style. 

Lastly on this I did change teh back to add a button loop in stead of using the ribbon. The loop can be found in the Ice Cream Dress pattern. 

Lastly, onto the birthday boy!! We always have a low key party so I wanted to make him something fun to wear this year. I used the sketchbook pattern for this set as well but with a fun smore fabric and denim shirts. 

Prince C now loves to eat smores so he was so excited to have shirt with them all over it...and it not be sticky. ha! 

I sued a jean thread for stitching the shorts. The waist band was a little think sewing so I had to use a heavy duty needle for stitching. I did break one on the hem. oopps. They did turn out great though. 

Happy Birthday to my little Prince C!! I still cannot believe that you are five now. I am excited to see what the new year brings you.

A Butterfly Dress

 

This weekend I was able to get to some much needed sewing and I finally finished Sweet pea's butterfly catching dress. I started it a while ago but it wasn't until G needed a Monarch Butterfly Caterpillar for school did I pull it back out to finish it. She did ask so sweetly for me to finish it too.

(This is her "Butterfly cove" as she calls it. So many butterflies to catch and chase here.)

 

The main fabric is a gift form my grandma Day, it is very hard to see here but the all the butterflies have the gold metallic outline to them, oh so pretty in the sunshine! The bias is left over from the massager bag Sweet pea and I made my Aunt this year. I bought a yard of fabric but did not realize at the time how far that it would go for bias, which is a very, very long way! The fabric has this very lovely drape to it and works so well this dress pattern.

 

I finally used my Oliver + S Pinwheel dress and tunic pattern for this so it counts as pattern busting too! I love, love this pattern! Very easy to sew with very lovely results. I just adore the flounces!

 

For the slip dress I used a solid blue Kona fabric, the very same as her Periwinkle costume from last year. I got this idea from a flicker friend, Tamara. I loved the one she made her daughter.

 

I also made Sweet pea matching hair bows this time. The pattern is a free printout from Oliver + S. It's super easy and quick to make. I will have to make her more of these!

 

No we didn't go alone, we took daddy and three brothers with us. We all enjoy walking down to the pond. It's so lovely and peaceful.

 

I am not always able to get good photos of the older boys but today I did, at least I love these photos.

 

I love this one, it is not always that these kids get along so I do enjoy it when they do. : D

Next up, finishing up G's hunting shirt and pants. I found the camo brushed twill that looks just like his grandpa's shirt. I love the way it feels, so soft and warm. Until then,
