American Girl Inspired Knee-high socks and Tight Tutorial

I been sewing up some cute doll socks today and I thought I would share with you how to make some yourself. They are crazy easy to make and so much fun! These are all made with adult socks and knee-high women's socks. They are so much fun that I have plans on making some dress socks and a few more knee-high pairs. Well lets get started! 

1. Take the sock you are using and turn it inside out. It only takes one sock to make a pair of doll socks or leggings. This is a men's dress sock here that I am using for the doll knee-high socks. 

2. Measure down from the top of the sock 5 3/4". Cut a straight line across. If you are making a pair of dress doll socks cut this shorter, more at 3".

4. Cut up the middle of the sock to create two equal pieces. One for each doll sock. The top edge of the adult sock will become the top of the doll sock.

4. Now either sew with a zig zag stitch or your serger the bottom edge and the sides where the raw edges of the sock are at. Sew in one continuous line, curving at the corner.

5. If you are making a pair of the leggings skip step 2 but cut the sock (this needs to be a knee high adult sock to be long enough for doll stocking) right above the heel. Cut the middle of the sock just as in step 4 but stop 3 1/2" from the top edge. The top edge of the adult sock will be come the waist band of the leggings. Sew or serge all the way around in one continuous lines as before.

 Tun the socks or tights right side out and you are ready to style your dolls!

These are some fun holiday ones for St. Patti's Day. I think she will need a fun green outfit to go with them now. 

This is what the knee-highs look like with boots, they are the wrong color of boots and the wrong style but you get the picture. ;-) Now we are looking for some killer boots to go with all these great socks.

Winter's Dance Skating Dress PDF pattern for Dolls Plus a Free Sweetheart Doll Dress pattern!

Happy Friday everyone!! 

This morning my pattern Winter's Dance Skating Dress released! This PDF pattern is for both the 18" doll and the shorter baby doll style dolls, like the Bitty Baby doll.  This dress is a vintage style ice skating dress from the 1950's era.  I really love the designs from that period of time! 

The dress is fully lined and has a circle skirt that is sewn in two pieces, easy for a directional print fabric to used. The lining of the skirt "peeks" out form under the top skirt some so it is a great place to add a fun color to the dress.  The bodice of the dress has darts as well to add really lovely fit and details to the bodice. The sleeves have a slight gather to the top and the dress is finished of with some fun trim that is on the bodice and the skirt as well. The pattern includes the trim stitching guild as well. 

For the red and pink dresses I used a flannel fabric for a warm look. I like the weight the fabric has as well to help hold the skirt's shape better at the bottom. 

This pattern looks really good in a quilter's cotton as well. I even added a fun bubble trim to miss Elsa's dress.

Sweet Pea and Pumkin Patterns; Branching Out

For the past few months I have been giving pattern making some serous thought. I really do enjoying sitting down and creating patterns. I have a several patterns ones I have made that I want to put into PDF patterns before I misplace them. (Yes that does happen a LOT.) With that thought I deiced "why not?!" So now Sweet pea and Pumpkin Patterns in born! 

The sewing and pattern making I most enjoy is for the 18" dolls. So my first pattern is s cute summer tunic and dress with a high/low hem. This dress is a "breeze" to sew. (As where the name partly come from.) 

I used art Gallery Voile to sew both cover photos tunic and dress. I also thought I would share all my lovely testers photos with you ladies as well. I really love how each of them came out!

I am not sure where this year will go but I am very excited and nervous at the same time. I guess that is normal though right?! I do have so many ideas and I hope that they will be enjoyed by others as much as I do.

Fairy tale Christmas dress for Sweet pea and her doll!

Last month I made Sweet pea a purple Art Gallery Fairy Tale dress for the holiday season, it's perfect for Christmas and New Years alike. It turned out to be a favorite dress of hers. So for Christmas her doll Isabelle had to have one as well to match Sweet pea's. 

 Since Oliver and S does not have doll pattern for all their patterns yet (*Hint, hint Liesl!!)I had to draft my own. I did leave the darts off this dress but on the next one I will add them to it. This dress is sewn very much like the big version, fully lined with a full crinoline underneath and finished with a big sash bow tied on back. 

The plan was for this dress to be a Christmas morning present but Sweet pea found it before hand any way so it is now on Isabelle for the Christmas week.  She does have to change into her pj's at night though. ;-) 

Here is the skirt's details. Sweet pea wanted it to be just like hers. This dress was also sewn with just the scraps from Sweet pea's dress. I think on my next Oliver and S pattern I will do the very same again! I think this will be some fun projects for the New Year for both my daughter and I. 

Well these two all set for Christmas Eve! I still have 5 sewing days left and so much more to blog about!

Faraway Downs, Some Doll Dress Sewing

It's that time of year again, Christmas gift sewing has started in my house. So to kick off the first week of sewing I started out with a Liberty Jane doll pattern. I find sewing for dolls so very relaxing, just what the doctor ordered this week!

The pattern is Faraway Downs for American Girl dolls, although this pattern has many different sizes for all types of dolls. This dress I made is really for Sarah's brand new doll that Santa is bringing her, the Girl Of The Year Grace. My doll was ever so sweet in modeling it for me. ;-) My Doll is an older version of the AG dolls so her bottom is a wee bit nigger than the newer dolls so this dress is a tad snug on her lower half. If you are wondering yes I was super tempted to open up Grace and try the dress on her, hehehe, but I didn't. 

The dress is fully lined and is sewn in Fabric Finders Chambray. I really love all the details on this pattern. The real princes seams,the top stitching, the collar, the ruffles right down to the wee buttons on the front. It was a such a satisfying pattern to sew. The better part if that it only took me a few hours as well. (Those were children sleeping hours as well) 

Now that I have finished this pattern I have a few more Liberty Jane patterns lined up to sew Grace doll. I know Sweet pea will be so surprised on Christmas morning this year.

Free 18" Doll Undies and T-shirt pattern

It's been a while since I have posted any doll clothes on here so today I thought I would share a free pattern with you! This is my 18" doll undies and T-shirt basic pattern. Both top and undies sew up fairly quickly so your daughter's dolly can have lots of extra sets. 

The undies are one piece that finish with fold over elastic. Right now all craft stores has lots of pretty colors and pattern fold over elastic so sky is the limits on this one. The shirt comes in thee sleeve lengths; long, 3/4" and short. You can even leave the top sleeveless as well.

Two New Doll Patterns, Mini Ships Ahoy and Mini Holiday Beret

I am so glad I get to share with you today two more new patterns of mine! The first one is the Mini Ships Ahoy (Of course it matches our girls' pattern) that comes in a dress length or tunic length with carpis. The dress has a cute sailor collar it but this dress/top looks great in both nautical and non-nautical fabrics. 

These are the dollies Fourth of July outfits! Both outfits are a quick sew, it took me about an hour to sew up the set with the pants. I love the clean lines of this pattern and I have it fully lined. You know I love a lovely finished inside.  ;-)

I even made baby Elsa a top too. The bottoms are my Mini Skinny Jeans patterns. I think they look so cute paired together. 

The second pattern of mine to release yesterday is the Mini Holiday Beret. Every doll needs her accessories right?! It looks great for the winter time or even the sailor look. It is fully lined too with an option for a crown band as well. This one is even quicker to sew, it took me about 30 minutes. (which is really good because Sarah thinks her dolls need one for almost every outfit, hahaha)

The top pattern is one that is soon to be released and the bottoms are the Mini Skinny Jeans as well. Every doll needs a few nice outfits in her wardrobe.

New Pattern; Paradise Days for Girl's and Doll's

Just in time for summer, a new pattern is released today! The paradise Days and Mini Paradise Days pattern from Ellie Inspired.  The doll one is my newest pattern that has been released. (Doesn't Isabelle look so cute?!) 

This is a wrap style skirt with an elastic waist band paired with a knit ruffled shirt. The shirt on the doll opens up in the back for ease of dressing the doll and closes with hook and loop tape. 

The girl's pattern is just like the doll's other than the knit shirt slips over the head. She LOVES this set so much! She wore it three days in row with me having to wash it at night for her to wear the next day. I used a woven fabric for the skirt's ruffles, arm binding and neck bindings with no issues of ti fitting over her head. You can use knit for all the skirt too but I wanted hers to match her skirt. The shirt looks great over shorts too!

Sweet pea looks already for a day at the beach! If only it would warm up now so we can go. 

I really do love love making matches set for Sarah and her dolly and she really loves it too. Little Miss Elsa dolly had to have a new summer outfit too. That is a whole lot of ruffles for this girly girl.
