New Patterns: All Hands On Deck for Girls and Doll and My Very First Children's Pattern!

I am so excited to share this blog post today! While I have been quite on my blog I have been busy sewing away on the Nautical Collection for Ellie Inspired! This time not only did I get to test patterns but I also have a few of my own too.
First up is the All Hands On Deck girl's pattern. This cute tunic/pants set is all made in knit fabrics. It sews up so quick and is so comfy for wear. One of my favorite part of this pattern is the collar. I love the construction of the collar so much on this tunic.

The pattern has a capri pants length option and a dress option as well.

Of course Sweet pea's doll had to have a matching outfit too so there is a Mini All Hands On Deck pattern as well. (This is another one of my doll patterns. that I made after Theresa's designs.) She is so thrilled that they can wear the same outfit.

The doll outfit is just like the big girl's.

They both have a cute bow at the collar point and double ruffle skirt. This will be one of Sweet pea's new school outfits.  (Yipes I still can't believe she is starting school!)

The third pattern out today is the Starboard pattern, this one is my very first children's pattern!! Yes I am super excited! This pattern also has a girl option as well. A sailor collar bodysuit shirt with either suspender shorts or a suspender skirt option for girl's. The girl's shirt also has a gathered cuffed sleeve. This pattern is for infants and toddlers.

This will be Prince C's Fourth of July outfit this year. I really love dressing up my baby boy still and he still loves it just as much. I am holding onto these days as much as I can because I know he is growing up way to fast. He will 3 this next week.  Where did the time go?

Another favorite feature of this pattern is the optional back welt pockets. I love how my little prince loves his welt Pockets! he has great taste in style I think. (Yes really does check for and request for these things at this young age)

Little Things To Sew Travel Quilt

Well I did it! I am officially done with all 21 projects in the Little Things to Sew book Challenge! I was able to finish up the Travel quilt and add in an extra pillow case this morning! I want to say a really big thanks to Shelley for hosting this fun challenge for if not for her I would have never finished up with all the patterns from the LTTS book. : )

For the quilt I wanted something with spring like fabrics in it, so I went with baby ducks and chicks with a peachy yellow main fabric. If you are looking more closely now you are not wrong, there are not chicks in this quilt at all. I decided after cutting into the fabric that I really loved the ducklings on the quilt by themselves and I am now saving the baby chicks for yet another Travel quilt later on. The cool thing is after I finished the quilt I had enough fabric left over to make a matching pillow case too!
(I uses 1/3 yard of each color of the duckling fabric total if you are wondering)

I quilted the top with a double diamond shape on my sewing machine. It really wasn't too bad except for the center rows where it was a tight squeeze on my machine for the fit. I did hand stitch the back of the binding on though, not too bad. ; )

To make enough fabric for the pillow case I cut 6" of the blue and brown ducks and sewn them together as one fabric for the border of the pillow case. I do like seeing all three fabrics on the pillow case for a bit fun. (The brown fabric is on the inside of the pillow case.)

Little Prince C loves it too! The whole time I was sewing this up he kept trying to snatch it from me. He sure was glad this morning when I really let him have his new quilt!

Thank you so much Shelly again! I couldn't have done it with out you!

I hope the rest of you ladies have as much fun sewing along with the Little Things to sew book challenge as I did!

A Nursing Cover

Any day now my nephew and his lovely wife are going to have their second baby boy. EEPPP! We are all so excited here. : )
The mother-to-be ask me if I would make her a nursing cover, I sure would!!
I found this pattern over at Pretty Prudent. It was quick to make and sew, I so wish I had made a few of these when mine were all babies. : ( Where did the time go?!?

Any how, I wanted to find a fabric with kittens in it, this has kitten and puppies. I almost bought 3 yards of this fabric. I love it dearly but I was not sure what else I would make with it so it I held back I didn't. Now I wish I had of although still no idea what I do with it. ; )

I really would like to make her one more if she likes it. I do love sewing for babies!

LTTS Book: Messy Kid Bibs

When I bought my Little Things to Sew Book I bought it with this pattern in mind for Sweet pea. The main reason I bought this book... I never did get around to making her this bib. Thank goodness we had Prince C! Just before Christmas Eve I made this bib, #1; I wanted Prince C to have a Christmas bib and #2; I didn't want him to mess up his clothes. ; )

This bib was so quick and easy to make that I made him two more the other day. I used left over fabric from his Puppet Theater and puppet drawstring bag. Two Fat quarters of fabric would really be enough to make a bib. (other than the bias) It took me less than an hour to make both of these from cutting out to sewing.

The size is great too for toddlers, just perfect to cover Prince C clothes and a pocket to catch any food missed. I did not use any on the iron on vinyl for any of these, I like the cloth bibs much better. I did how ever use two piece of fabric for main bib, a front and a back. Nothing leaks through and easy to wash still.

15 projects sewn and 6 to go!

What's next on Little Things to Sew challenge you ask??

Prince C's Halloween Costume!

Mommy had a little lamb who's fleece was white as snow...

everywhere that mommy went, her lamb was sure to go. : )

This little nursery rhyme was playing through my head as I was sewing along. He is going as a little just not mommy's little lamb. Sweet pea is going as Little Bo Peep and he is her little lamb. I picked his costume out and she requested to dress along with him. How cute is she?!? : )

The fabric is from a lovely, oh so soft blanket from Better Homes and Gardens. My mom and I seen it in the store, it has little swirls of softness and the blanket was fully lined, score!

I used all Oliver + S patterns for this costume this year. The shirt is sail boat, I used hook and loop tape instead of buttons, easier for dressing & easier from sewing! The pants are the sleep over pattern, fully lined with an added tail. The tail wags when he waddles. It is too cute, I wish I could take a video and show you it in action. The hat is from The Little Things To Sew book. All of it came together very quickly, well it would have been quickly if I would not have tried it on him after each step in sewing it. ; )

The great news is he loves the pants and fabric. As he is still wearing this and he is still sleeping. I think it's a magic sleeping costume.
The bad news, he does not care for the shirt and totally hates, hates the hat! We are all trying to get are little prince to wear it so maybe he'll cave in before Halloween, just maybe...I hope.

Next up some black LTTS mittens for him then onto to Sweet pea's Little Bo Peep!

Happy Sewing!

Vintage style Tea Party Sun Suit for His First Steps

As I have said it before I love to make vintage style clothing for my baby boy. I love those old style romper and overall for baby boys. I thought that Oliver + S Tea Party Sun suit would fit the bill for what I was looking for. For this one I did a special little hand stitching to mark his first steps. I made piping the same color as his sun suit but no changes were made to the pattern itself, well except for the leg closer. I think it looks so very cute over his birthday Sketchbook shirt too. : )

These photos were taken over 4 weeks ago as he was just starting to walk. (Yes, it has taken me that long to post this.) Now Prince C has this mastered down.
Up we go!

Almost there...

now standing....

Yep, he is walking here!
This was right after his 1st birthday.

Here is how I added the hand stitching to the bodice, first I traced the bodice pattern onto the fabric and then traced my hand stitching pattern onto the bodice. Mine is based off a pattern article from the Sew Beautiful magazine (the John and Suzanne pattern) I then interfaced the whole bodice pattern piece then stitched my pattern.

Here it is all done! I think this is every mommy's prayer as their little one starts to walk.

This is how I finish every one of the Tea Party sun suit pattern. I have never had a problem with his seat coming undone or unsnapped. I will have to share with you ladies on how I do this one day.

Another favorite part of the little suit is the fully lined inside. *sign* I love, love fully lined clothes. This was easier to do than I thought.

This is my favorite Tea Party sun suit to date. I think I will keep it forever. : )

Vintage Style Romper

Last Friday I received my Sew Beautiful Magazine and fell in LOVE with the romper on the front cover! A vintage style romper with pleats was just calling my sewing machine names! I had to make one for Sweet pea right then and there. Well first I finished up my chevron skirt then I started this. : )

Lucky for me I had this fabric and lace already here at the house on hand. It was for a Play date dress but I though it would work very well for this pattern. I think that there might still be enough left over for the play date too, or maybe a Tea party dress? Anyway, I also had the buttons here from my grandmother. They are vintage MOP buttons. They were a bit dusty but cleaned up very well and look better than brand new. I have been hording these for just the right dress. : )

I can't say that I followed the pattern to a T. I not sure if I was reading it wrong or it was a miss print but the back bodice was to be cut in two pieces, main and lining and the pattern seem to read as though it was a four back bodice pattern pieces. I could have very well been me  though seeing I was sewing with four children running around the house and a baby pulling at the foot pedal cord the entire time I was working on this. Other that it wasn't bad to sew, quite fun! The back placket was something new I tried. It is all hand stitched and looks so dreamy when finished!
(see picture below)

The pleats are even on the back! Can you see the back seem? Nope, only pleats? Yep, I love that too! ; )

This little girl loves it. She thinks it's still a dress but oh well it still very sweet on her. It's nice and roomy for play but looks so dressy that she could wear it to church. I think I will add side pockets to the next one too.

Here's a peek at the inside back placket. You can't see barley a stitch. I maybe a nerd but I think this is so cool!

We will see later!

Happy Sewing!

Baby's First Easter

Happy 9 months and first Easter Price C!

My little sweet boy had to have a very special outfit for this Easter. (I do wish I could sew like this when my three other boys were babies!) I used a pattern from Creations by Michie' Knickers Yoke-overlay. It can either be gathered or smocked but I had, had to make the smocked one for him. I was going to make his bubble out of blue fabric but after my Aunt suggested white fabric I thought that it would look way better too. I am so glad I used the white fabric!

(our little duck hand, quack, quack!)

This pattern was very well written but I did make a few changed to the pattern like lining the pants so I finished the seams different than what the pattern called for. That and I finished the knickers cuffs a bit different too.

The smocking was not hard at all either. I am a beginner at smocking so I am very happy how this turned out.  This was the first time I made my own piping. I used left over blue fabric from his last bubble outfit I made him. I do love this blue on him!

Well I have not taken the other kiddos pictures yet I hope to latter on this week. I am still working on Sweet pea's dress. I should of had it done by Easter but this dumb dumb bought the wrong sized zipper so it had to wait. I can tell you that it is looking wonderful. I can't wait to share pictures of it!

I couldn't wait though to take little guy's picture though and had to share these. I think he looks so cute. : )

Now this is what the other pictures looked like. Little guy trying his best to sneak off and play. He loves getting into everything now. How much fun will he be when he starts walking!

More Easter sewing to come....

I hope your Easter was a wonderful like ours!
