Costume Number two, Go, Go Diego Go! for Prince C!

Well it is a very sure thing to say that Price C is growing up waaayyy too fast! This year for Halloween he requested to be Diego from the cartoon. I don't mind him asking to dress up as what he wants be it is the "being able to ask" part that gets me! I knew he would start to grow up I just didn't think it would be this quick. *sigh*

Here are the details of his costume for this year. The hat and vest are both form the Little Things To Sew book. I did change the vest a wee bit and added a metal zipper to look more like Diego's vest. I am very glad I did too; it is way easier for his to use a zipper than buttons. He still doesn't know how to use the buttons. {The only thing saving me when he is trying to take his clothes off! I put his dress shirts on him. ;-) haha} The hat is sideways here but there is a "Diego" logo on both hat and vest.

The pants and shirt are both from Oliver + S Field Trip pattern. He has worn both shirt and pants a ton already. He really loves these pants! The are the size 18-24 months. They are a bit big but they should fit for a while. 

The perfect outfit for my explorer little boy. He is off to have an adventure of his very own.

A good friend of mine said that she blinked and her daughter grew up, I think I must have blinked here too.

Strawberry Bento Carrier, done at Last!

With the Little Things to Sew Cover to Cover challenge just about done I decide that I had to finish this Bento Carrier. I started it well over three years ago when I first bought the book. I messed up on some stitching, I stitched through all the layers instead of only on the inside so I dropped sewing it, which all it needed was bias to finish it. So Sad huh??

Well on Thursday I sat down and really finished it! I used some premade bias I had on hand at the house so it took all of five minutes. SO funny all that avoidance for years for five minutes of sewing time! Any way, lucky for me Sweet pea really loves strawberries still and she was super excited to able to use this. She had to pack green grapes, 9 of them by request, for a snack-to-go and declared it worked out perfect! Yay!

So the details, this one was made out of some of Sarah's fabric scrap fabrics at the time. I appliques' out of some butterfly fabric and sewn them onto the inside for a nice surprise. (yes the middle fabric is wrinkly but at least I know my sewing skills have improved since then) 

I even appliques some of the strawberry fabric to the outside. Which you can clearly see the stitching......which is why it took so long for me to pick it back up. You know what, Sarah didn't even noticed! how silly of me to think that it was a problem.

So do ladies have any of those projects started but not finish yet? There is still some time!!

Little Things To Sew Travel Quilt

Well I did it! I am officially done with all 21 projects in the Little Things to Sew book Challenge! I was able to finish up the Travel quilt and add in an extra pillow case this morning! I want to say a really big thanks to Shelley for hosting this fun challenge for if not for her I would have never finished up with all the patterns from the LTTS book. : ) 

For the quilt I wanted something with spring like fabrics in it, so I went with baby ducks and chicks with a peachy yellow main fabric. If you are looking more closely now you are not wrong, there are not chicks in this quilt at all. I decided after cutting into the fabric that I really loved the ducklings on the quilt by themselves and I am now saving the baby chicks for yet another Travel quilt later on. The cool thing is after I finished the quilt I had enough fabric left over to make a matching pillow case too!

(I uses 1/3 yard of each color of the duckling fabric total if you are wondering)

I quilted the top with a double diamond shape on my sewing machine. It really wasn't too bad except for the center rows where it was a tight squeeze on my machine for the fit. I did hand stitch the back of the binding on though, not too bad. ; )

To make enough fabric for the pillow case I cut 6" of the blue and brown ducks and sewn them together as one fabric for the border of the pillow case. I do like seeing all three fabrics on the pillow case for a bit fun. (The brown fabric is on the inside of the pillow case.)

Little Prince C loves it too! The whole time I was sewing this up he kept trying to snatch it from me. He sure was glad this morning when I really let him have his new quilt!

LTTS: Some fun things for Prince C

This past week I really, truly got around to sewing. I just wanted to keep it simple, fun and easy so I made an art smock, a bias apron and a bento carrier for Prince C. Yes, all things are also on my list of things needed to be sewn for the Little Things to Sew book challenge too. ; ) Two birds with one stone you could say!

The Art Smock really was a pleasure to sew. The instructions have you make French seams on the inside and make for a lovely finish to the smock. I just love French seams!

I used contrasting thread on this. I love the way the white thread looks against the red fabric. I really am happy the way the pockets look on this too.

This is Prince C's new cooking apron. He wanted one like big brothers and sister but all the ones I have in the house made up are way to big for him. This one is just his size!  It was pretty easy to sew too and I think with the off white bias on the coke fabric that it reminds me of Vanilla Coke. Yummy! If I can't drink it at least I can sew with it. (Oh how I miss drinking Coke Cola!)

Next up his new lunch box! The pattern is the Bento Carrier. It was just as fun to sew as the other two. I started one of these well over two tears ago for Sweet pea but have yet to finish it. now I have no clue why? (I would be happy to finish it now but it is pack up somewhere out in the barn. I'll have have to find it later this spring.) I am thinking that I really just enjoy sewing with bias is why I love this pattern so. On this one I used teal top stitching on the off white bias for different look. Some of the stitching is off a bit (don't look!) but Prince C love it anyway. I added a circle coke applique' to the center of this ala Quilt in Day style. I'll have to share that with you ladies one day.   

Here is the outside of his Bento Carrier. I need to go and buy a little container from the store to fit inside this for him. He does enjoy carrying around a lunch like his grandpa and daddy. I think it's so cute.

Well three more projects done and one final one to go! I am finishing up with the quilt. I already have it cut as I type and it's waiting on me to sew it up. I decided to make mine in different fabrics than the other ones I have seen. It's a bit more "spring" like you can say. (hint, hint) I will have plenty of sewing time today too, we are completely iced in. The ground is all white but it's all ice and no snow. Oh well.

LTTS Play Town

Here's another one for adventure In the Little Things To Sew book! I used only the fabric I have on hand...and that is not in the frozen shed. ;) All are fabulous scraps that I have saved for this project. Sadly the "main" house fabrics is buried some where out in the frozen shed I was telling you about.  OS any way, here is what I have made so far!

I had the most fun adding things to the houses back side. Most are fabric that I appliqued on but the flower trellis was done on the sewing machine then I added some hand stitched flowers. This one is Sweet pea's favorite house.  

I also added some details to the sides. The white house that looks, well rather wonky is rather wonky. The white in linen and was not fun to sew for this project at all. I have used the linen for lining clothes with no problem but this project it is just way to thin. I will not use it again for this.ever.

Here is Sweet pea's pet store. She helped with this one by "designing" it. It was hard trying to sew it together as she was trying to play with it at the same time. : )

I was going to make as least two more houses but time has caught up with me and our wee little Prince C has learned a new trick that he rather enjoys....taking all his clothes off. Yep the little bugger is at that stage, soooo I really need to get to some more Tea Party paly suits for him. They are the only thing he can not take off. I plan on one more fox one and maybe a monkey one for fun.

Happy Birthday Mr. G and Sweet pea!

This month at our house we celebrated Mr. G's 8th birthday and Sweet pea's 4th! I can not believe how much these two have grown. Sniff, sniff.

Every year I make their birthday cakes, this year's cake for my big boy was a camouflage cake. I made the tree out of a ice cream cone and even added deer tracks across the top of the cake. I found this camo sugar paper at eth store and added it to the sides. Not bad looking I think, at least I know G loved it!  

See, it's even camo in the inside. It from a mix this year, Duff Stuff cake mix. It was very yummy for a box mix! 

I made Mr. G a LTTS book bag, here's a sneak peek at it! You have to wait to see the rest. ; ) 

Sweet pea picked out a little paper kit for her cake, she told me she wanted a Lalaloopsy Cake this year after we had bought it, yep it sure look like it does belong on a Lalaloopys cake to me! 

I made the frosting colors to match her decorations for the top and sides. She was very thrilled with it!



I did finish her dolly dress so they matched her birthday. 



I remade the School photo dress in a dolly size for a 14" Waldorf doll. It came out fitting very well I think. Sweet pea was thrilled with it!

I even made a matching nappy by request. Really need to buy some fabric fat quarters and make a bunch of these clothe nappies up one day. They really are supper easy and quick to make.

LTTS Book: Messy Kid Bibs

 

When I bought my Little Things to Sew Book I bought it with this pattern in mind for Sweet pea. The main reason I bought this book... I never did get around to making her this bib. Thank goodness we had Prince C! Just before Christmas Eve I made this bib, #1; I wanted Prince C to have a Christmas bib and #2; I didn't want him to mess up his clothes. ; )

 

This bib was so quick and easy to make that I made him two more the other day. I used left over fabric from his Puppet Theater and puppet drawstring bag. Two Fat quarters of fabric would really be enough to make a bib. (other than the bias) It took me less than an hour to make both of these from cutting out to sewing.  

 

The size is great too for toddlers, just perfect to cover Prince C clothes and a pocket to catch any food missed. I did not use any on the iron on vinyl for any of these, I like the cloth bibs much better. I did how ever use two piece of fabric for main bib, a front and a back. Nothing leaks through and easy to wash still.

Some Small Christmas projects!

 

A very quick post on some smaller things I have made for Christmas. This little fellow was made on Friday, the last day the kids were in school before the holiday break. He's for Prince C. Prince C has taking a liking to Sweet pea's baby from Aunt Fran so I am hoping this gets him to leave her alone. (Lots of fighting of Sweet pea's dolly!)

 

He is a baby sock monkey too! I made him a cloth nappy, the very same as I used with Sweet pea Ella doll. Both were quick easy. the sock monkey was lots of hand stitching though.

I even made a place his tale to go through. All I did was make a big buttonhole on the nappy.

 

 

I also made Prince C a nice bib for Little things To Sew book. I bought this book with Sweet pea in mind to make her a bunch of these but it never did happen. At least I did get around to get use out of this pattern for the next baby! It's a great pattern, easy a fairly quick. I am getting much better at making bias I think. ; )

 

Later in the week I plan on making a few more of these. They will be very useful with my messy little man! He even likes to wear this.

 

lastly, Sweet pea and I made this Christmas tree cake yesterday together. It was so much fun baking her. Nothing says the Happy Holidays like baking! I think it came out very well. I wasn't ready to cut but she and the boys sure were! It's almost gone now. *sniff, sniff*

 

We have made over 5 dozen cookies and still counting, I still have some sewing that must be done before Christmas too. I hope to have it all done, wish my luck!

Puppet Theater Gift: part 2 and a wee little bunny!

 

Here is the second part to Prince C puppet theater present! I made the four puppets from the Little Things to Sew Bear bath mitten pattern. They were all very easy to make and the pattern mods we easy to make as well. I made all four in about two hours of sewing. Each puppet is from a different type of fabric, corduroy, fleece, wool and terry cloth.

 

I also made him a Juggler bag with left over fabrics from his theater. This pattern is also from the LTTS book.  I had left over its from the Super Why pajamas so I added the word "puppets" on the bag. This is so the older ones know not to put their things into it. ; )  

 

 

Both of these are from the Little Things to Sew book challenge, #13 and #14 done! Seven more to sew baby! 

 

 

 

I also whipped up this cute little bunny for Prince C for his stocking on Christmas morning. The fabric was left over from his lamb Halloween costume this year. He has super soft fur made for cuddling. C hasn't seen him yet either!

 

He even has a wee little tale.

 

 

 

Well I got to go back to sewing, I do hope to finish my ever growing list by Christmas eve! One more thing to sew for the baby today and Garrett's Sketchbook trousers.

A Puppet Theater Christmas Gift for Prince C: Part 1

 

Here is my second homemade Christmas gift! It's the Puppet Theater from The Little Things To Sew Book. It was on my list last year but I was unable to get to it until, well until last week. I really was beginning to wonder if I would have enough time to make and finish it this year but I did!

 

I made it for Prince C but I am very sure that all the kids will use it. Prince C is a tad short to reach the puppet theater curtains at the moment. I am sure he'll grow into it. : )

 

On his I copied an idea from this Puppet theater, love it! I made Prince C his own label complete with Charlie and Lola. I had to add them for when I was sewing this I kept thinking this reminded me of their house. Can you here the two of the giggling?!? I plan on making Prince C Charlie and Lola puppets after the Holidays and birthday season is over.

 

I used scraps of Children at play scraps for the flowers on the window boxes and a old brass button for the door knob. The button is a special button for my grandmother. : )

 

I did have to sew this with Sweet pea and little man watching to get it done but the good news is that he really, really loves it! I had to pry it from his hands with him screaming "mine, give back!" at me.

 

The other great part? It's #12 from the Little Things to Sew book Challenge! Yippy!
