Camp Out Birthday Party!

Caspian had the best party ever this year! Well, almost the best. Most our family was here to celebrate the day with us.

Here is the dessert table. I made both banners out of a Riley Blake panel. The name of it slips my mind now, but it did work out perfectly I think. I used a fabric to make both table clothes , fabric courtesy of my grandma, (thanks grandma!) She always sends me the best fabrics. : )  I did try to keep everything simple since it was an out doors party too.

We had a trail mix bar and we roasted hot dogs on a open fire. Yummy! It's one of our kids favorite things to eat.

I made "camp fire" cup cakes. I used honey pretzels for the "wood" under the fire frosting. These were super easy to make.  I seen the idea on Pintrest somewhere but I can't tell you where, sorry.

A forest of sugar cookies anyone? There are a few leaning trees due to a two year old boy trying to sneak a few.....not that Caspian could tell you who. ; )

And of course I did make s'more cookies too. These were super easy to make too. I just followed the recipe for chocolate chip cookies but added a half a bag of the chocolate chips, a 1/2 cup of the Jet-Puffed Mallowbits and about 4 crumbled lightly gram crackers. This was the biggest hit with my kids.

Lastly for the decorations is the canvas table runners I made I use left over fabric from the Puppet Theater I made at Christmas time to make both of them. I cut them then added a decorative stitch that my sewing machine does, an oak leaf, and just did a narrow hem to finish them.  Super simple again just time consuming. I never thought I was going to finish sewing those leaves on! I used mason jars with rocks in the bottom with water to make candle holders for the floating candles as well. These are very pretty in the dark, sadly I forgot to light any of them. Oh well, we can still use them on another night. 

Now the wee ones favorite part of the day! Grandpa/great-grandpa was  giving out "tractor" rides. Caspian and his small cousin couldn't get enough of these!

My brother was glad to help out with riding in the back with the small ones. (there was four generations here for the party too, my dad, my brother, his son my nephew and his two boys. I wish I had thought of taking their picture altogether!)

Caspian and his cousin were fast friends too. They both are around the same age and got along very well. It was so cute to see them playing together.

Are they not just the cutest?!? 

All in all it was a very good day for the most part. My husband had to work last minute. Which was really a bummer seeing it was also our 12th wedding anniversary too. The other was that my nephew's oldest son was hurt and broke his leg, yah that was beyond super sticky as the kids would say. We are praying for a quick recovery for him.

We did have a wonderful visit with family and I think everyone had a good time. I hope we can do it again!

I Blinked and Then He was Two

My little baby boy is turning two this next week. It's so hard to believe that two years has almost pasted since this little prince was born. I was just holding my baby it seems like yesterday. 

He is my out doors boy so I thought how fitting to have his birthday outfit using the firefly fabric from Wee Wanderings. I just adore this fabric line!  We are having a "Camp Out" birthday theme for his as well. There is nothing that this boy loves more than being outside eating roasted hot dogs. Well, he does love to chase the fireflies as well. ; )

Daddy and I(mostly daddy) just built the kids this fort that we put back in the woods a bit from old pallets. Lonnie even reused the nails from the pallets as well. Such a clever man. Prince C is uses it the most. It's perfect to go with his camp out theme I think.

As you can see it's a great place to play and hide.

The run down on his outfit, the top is the Sketchbook shirt form Oliver + S and the shorts are form their Field trip cargo pants. The shorts are sewn a stretch twill. I not so sure I will use the stretch twill again for this pattern due to the cargo pockets stretching a bit. They do look fine but it wasn't the most fun to sew. Both top and bottoms are 18m size, both are big on him but at least I know they fit for a while. He really wears about a size 12m still. I do think he does look so cute it though. : )


Well his party is Saturday and I have some more things to get in order!

Happy Birthday Mr. G and Sweet pea!

This month at our house we celebrated Mr. G's 8th birthday and Sweet pea's 4th! I can not believe how much these two have grown. Sniff, sniff.

Every year I make their birthday cakes, this year's cake for my big boy was a camouflage cake. I made the tree out of a ice cream cone and even added deer tracks across the top of the cake. I found this camo sugar paper at eth store and added it to the sides. Not bad looking I think, at least I know G loved it!  

See, it's even camo in the inside. It from a mix this year, Duff Stuff cake mix. It was very yummy for a box mix! 

I made Mr. G a LTTS book bag, here's a sneak peek at it! You have to wait to see the rest. ; ) 

Sweet pea picked out a little paper kit for her cake, she told me she wanted a Lalaloopsy Cake this year after we had bought it, yep it sure look like it does belong on a Lalaloopys cake to me! 

I made the frosting colors to match her decorations for the top and sides. She was very thrilled with it!



I did finish her dolly dress so they matched her birthday. 



I remade the School photo dress in a dolly size for a 14" Waldorf doll. It came out fitting very well I think. Sweet pea was thrilled with it!

I even made a matching nappy by request. Really need to buy some fabric fat quarters and make a bunch of these clothe nappies up one day. They really are supper easy and quick to make.

1st Birthday Baby Boy and Party!

 

Sunday we had Prince C's 1st Birthday Party! He had a blast! It was so much fun watching his face trying new things. First up was his picture. I love this one, it really shows what he did the whole time I was attempting to get just one good photo of this little guy. All I wanted was just one.  

 

He loved the pom pom hanging from the ceiling. He did try to grab it several times. Many thanks to my older boys for helping with keeping his hands more to the floor.

 

Then he thought that the steamers would be yummy to chew on....

 

but he didn't think a hat was going on his head, not his head. Oh yah, and the suspenders, didn't happen either. He hated those just as much as the hat. I really loved the little hat. sniff, sniff.

 

I still think he was just the cutest though.

 

Here is a closer look at his outfit. I used the Oliver + S Sketchbook pattern for his top and knickers. I wanted something vintage looking for him. I just love anything vintage!

 

The shirt I made into a onesie shirt so it stays tucked in his pants. He is a very wiggly baby boy so this has helped out a ton. He was worn this outfit many times already and I love, love this shirt! I will have to make all his shirts like this from now on. Many thanks to another O+S gal for this great idea!!

 

The pants I made into knickers. I kept the length the same as the pattern and transferred the pleat from the top onto the bottoms and made a cuff to finish them off. Easy peasy!  For the suspender we already had a pair so all I had to do was sew the buttons onto the waist band. For the button on the pants I sewn in a fake button hole. I love the look of this too.

 

The hat pattern was my own. It fits him well if he would just leave the thing on his head for two seconds...

 

Now the fabrics, the shirt in linen and the pants in a suiting, a lovely, soft suiting. I love the feel of it! It was a bit of a pain to sew though. It stretches so easy.

 

Now little guy was not much into being held this day so this is the best photo I have of the shirt fit. Poor little one, there was too much to get into this day.

 

His cake was a  traditional carrot cake, many, many thanks to Sarvi for the recipe!! Our little guy is severely allergic to dairy and this cake not only fit the bill but was very yummy too.

 

For the cupcakes I did make frosting for the older ones. They said they really needed it.

 

Sweet pea helped with the decoration. I was not really doing a theme but she insisted that he wanted a Max and Ruby. She told me to go to Nick jr on the puter (computer)  and I find party stuff.(her own words!) I am sure she has to see this on the TV. It was not a big deal so I did. She picked out what Prince C wanted. ; ) A p[arty banner and a few party fun things for his guests.

 

Surely she wasn't thinking about herself here.

 

For dinner we had hamburgers and fried, one Prince C's favorites.

 

And sweet lemon aide.

 

 

The really fun part of our day was to watch Prince C eat his first

 cake.

 

He couldn't get enough of it! He ate a whole corner off the cake before we decided he had enough. I was afraid after eating all those fries and watermelon that it was more than his tummy could handle.

 

This is the most special gift Prince received for his birthday. My wonderful mom made this for him. I love it and the colors are the same for his party. I do wish I got a photo of him opening this. He spread it out on the floor, got this big grin and decided it was  a pint size yoga mat for him and proceeded to use it as such. I about died laughing at him. I think he has been watching me work out. ; )

 

Our whole family had a wonderful day with our special baby boy.
