A Fairy Tale about the Fairy Tale Dress pattern

This years costume is made with the Fairy tale dress pattern .....again. How could I not?! ;-) Its had me thinking about all the dresses I have made with the wonderful pattern so I thought why not share them all to date in one post? 

 Plus even better over at Whimsical fabrics we will be having a sew along for this dress pattern too later this fall!! 

So Here it goes! 

My very first Fairy tale I made with added smocking. I made this with the help of my over sea's wonderful friend Tamara. 

It even has piping and bouillon roses on the collar. 

#2, this one was made for Once Upon A Thread sew along. It is from her favorite American Girl book at the time. 

She even acted out the book as we were taking pictures. 

#3, the dress was made into a longer version for a princess dress for playing in. I did go all out and hand sewn glass beads onto the bodice as well. This one is still hanging up in her closet. 

I am a bit sad that it is too small now. 

#4, a Skater's dress as she calls it. (from Dora the Explorer cartoon)  I made the snowflake embroidery by hand on the bodice. I even hand painted some of the dots with white glitter paint along the hem line. She wore this dress so much! It was a favorite for a long time. 

#5 and 6. Sweet pea's Boo Peep costume. I made a full under dress and a lace up corset dress to go over it. This was a work of love and so much fun to sew! I have this one hanging up still. One day I will put it up in my sewing room I think. 

Here is a much better look at the under dress from above. It has rows of ruffles, she used this as her Easter dress the following year as well. It was made in a white fabric that lined in pink. 

Dress #7 the voile fairy tale dress with a belt.  It was made with left over fabric form a dress of mine. I had to really fussy cut to make it but it is so worth the time in making the fabric stretch!  

I even made miss Ella one to match. 

Dress #8, the one with added princess seams and lots of ruffles! I made the skirt more full as well for both the main skirt and under skirt. This one still fits her and is super special! The fabric is from my wonderful from overseas. We both cherish this one so much, we think of our sweet friend every time she wears it. 

Dress #9, the Elsa Frozen Queen one! She still wears this one a lot as well. It is full of glittery snowflakes! It is beautiful but you should have seen the house when I was sewing it. hehehe 

This one is the one above but now it works as a cute top with the puppet show shorts. This one will be making it's way to Australia this winter to the lovely Nicole for her daughter. 

Dress #10 This is the one from the Make It Mine Challenge! from Whimsical Fabrics. This one was super fun to sew! I added long sleeves from the Apple Picking dress, the neck band from the Roller skate Dress and made a hem band so I could add the piping detail. 

The bow on this pattern has to be my favorite!! 

Last but not least dress # 11! Our Pinkalicous and the Pink drink dress. (from a book) I left the darts off on this one and added a circle skirt. It was really easy to change. She will be wearing a pettie skirt under it as well. 

I am sure you can tell I really love to sew with this pattern. Jocole Sewing Patterns Fall Blog Tour!

I am very honored to be apart of the Jocole Sewing pattern Fall Blog tour. I took some time and did some selfish sewing for me this time. I even used some fabric that I was head over heels for. I usually do not use this type of print for myself but adore this knit so much, pictures do not do it justice. It worked out so lovely with this pattern as well!  

Today I sewn with the Mix and Match women's patterns. I used the  Basic Tee, the Classy Cowlneck and the Ladies Quick Dress for the sleeves. (The mix and match patterns have a sleeve pattern though as well) I can't tell you how much I adore this pattern!! The style, the way it sews up (seriously the neck line is the most clever top I have ever sewn!) and the neck line is very modest. Mine was a bit blown by the wind this day but it is perfect if I have to bend over in public as well. 

The other part why I love this pattern is that it covers my scar on neckline but without a choking feeling. I know for sure that this will be patterns that I sew up again and again. I really enjoyed sewing with these patterns and love the instructions and fit.

Sewing for the Boy

Remember this outfit that I sewn a while back?? Well I finally was able to get my little guy to stand still long enough for some photos of him wearing it! This outfit has been worn many times already and is holding up very nicely. A big plus for any clothes for for an active toddler/preschooler boy. 

Outfit #1. This was made using the Oliver and S Parachute Polo top and the After School pants minus the pockets. I made the top in all knit and the pants are sewn in a back/grey chambray with a charcoal grey top stitching. Both are great go-to patterns for boys. They sure are mine! 

The pants are sewn in three panels on each leg so a perfect way to show off top stitching details. When I first sewn these pants I feel in love with the back pockets, I still love them after three years.  For a girl version the pattern has ruffles that can be added to the pants front pockets and the side seam as well, although they do run on the slim side. That's why they are a perfect fit for my son because he is so thin. 

The polo has a real button placket as well as front pockets. LOVE. I have made my youngest three of these shirts so far and want to make my other sons some as well. I am not sure they will wear it but hey I can try right?!?  

Prince C favorite part is the pocket. Perfect for rocks and feathers. 

Outfit #2 A Field Trip set. (for O+S of coarse) 

The shirt is new, size 3T and the shorts are the ones from his second birthday party, size 18 months. The shorts have held up very, very well. All his clothes really have and he loves to wear mam made.  That's why I love sewing for my little man. :-)

Where the Wild Things Are

This year's little Prince C's costume was chosen by him, as he is growing up so fast and loves to help with all his things now. He chose to be a "big little monster" as he calls it. King of the Wild The Things as you may know him. 

This costume was easy peasy this year. I used a pattern I seen years ago over at Running with Scissors blog. (It was one of my favorite blogs a while ago but I know life gets busy and blog goes quite for some. I know you will enjoy readying past posts as much as I do still). The pattern went together great and fits my little guy well. I did make one change of of using buttons instead of a zipper. All I did was add a facing to both open front panels and add 1/8" elastic for button loops. 

His costume is mostly fleece with this unknown fabric as the tail. It does work as one! It's very fuzzy and has a nice weight to it. This was  really fun costume to make and it can work for a book week too. I love how he picked a book to have a costume after and not a movie of show on tv. 

"Let the rumpus begin!!" 

Then the Wild things made him their king. 

Yes he had to have the kings crown. He is after all King of the Wild Things? 

Then in the end he comes home, with papa. My little Wild Thing.

A little Horsing Around with the Hide and Seek Dress

I love it when my daughter sees fabric that is a must have on her list! A while back we seen a cute skirt sewn up in this fabric on Flicker that a friend had made and it was a huge request by my little girl. So when Whimsical Fabrics starting to stock this very print we had to have it!  

When I first ordered the fabric I knew I had to make a Hide and Seek dress with it. I adore the lines on this pattern. It's not your traditional dress/tunic top but it still looks so sweet on little girls. I think the simple lines on this one makes it perfect for using fun fabrics for sewing!  Also the simple lines on this pattern allows it to have have some awesome details. Win win in my book!  

I love the yokes V notch shape and the outside curves. It gives the illusion of a more shaped bodice so it doesn't look baggy. LOVE!  The back bodice has the very same shape as well. I used chambray for the yoke and yoke lining. 

Just below the yoke the skirt is attached with some soft gathers. It looks so sweet I think. 

I finished the back with rectangle MOP buttons. These were the last of the ones I had bought from the old vintage store before the sweet lady went to be with the Lord. They are very special to my daughter and I both. (I miss her dearly. We could talk for hours about sewing for children.) 

The other wonderful detail this dress has are some clever welt pockets on the front seam line. They are surprisingly easy to sew! 

Here is the first Hide and Seek tunic I sewn. I really love how it came out. 

As you can tell from Sweet pea's face she loves this dress as much as I do. I love her  style as she is growing. It's fun to watch her grow into a little lady.

Sewing for my Little Prince C

Autumn is here and my little prince had grown so much over the last summer, from a  size 18 months to a size 3T! So some sewing was in order! 

First up was the Oliver and S Field Trip raglan shirt. Well I really sewn  the three Field trip tee's and the pants over the last week and the weekend before. The Polo was sewn weeks ago but I have not blog about any of them yet. My poor little guy was really very sick for over week. He feels much better now so hopefully I can now get some modeled photos of him in everything too! 

This first shirt was an up-cycle shirt that I bought in the store because I loved the knit. I bought hubby one and bought a second one to make Price C a matching shirt. 

The next two shirts were made using only left over fabric form the three polos I made him. That's right, I made five shirts with 3 yards of fabric! I am very happy with this plus I sewn down a big part of my scrap been with these. This one has a print from the front and the solid for the back. The bird Art gallery knit is some of Prince C's favorite. Well to be honest he loves all the AG knits, he loves to pet the fabric. (I have no idea where he ever got this from. ;-) }

The second one has the Arrows from the front and back and the birds on teh sleeves. Both shirts have been in rotation every since I sewn them. The little guy was even hugging them when I shown him what I had sewn. It really sheered him up. (I have no idea why this photo keeps flipping on me.) 

This is the arrow polo that I had sewn weeks ago, it's from using the Oliver and S Parachute Polo pattern. I think this will be a most sewn pattern in my collection. On my third one it took my only an hour to sew one up not including the buttons. 

I made my little guy some After School pants in a chambray too. I left off the front pockets on these just because I love the look of them with out the pockets for a boy. 

The chambray has a black interweave color in them so I top stitched them in all black thread. I love how this pattern makes it so easy to show off great top stitching. 

I did make the polo in all knit as well. I did try Nicole's advice on the polo and used the woven button placket on the third polo and I love how it does have much less bulk to it. It wears very nice. I did figure a way out of getting rid of the white interfacing when the polo is all finished sewing as well. (I got the idea form Shelley) I will post about that later this week. :-)
