I Blinked and Then He was Two

My little baby boy is turning two this next week. It's so hard to believe that two years has almost pasted since this little prince was born. I was just holding my baby it seems like yesterday.

He is my out doors boy so I thought how fitting to have his birthday outfit using the firefly fabric from Wee Wanderings. I just adore this fabric line!  We are having a "Camp Out" birthday theme for his as well. There is nothing that this boy loves more than being outside eating roasted hot dogs. Well, he does love to chase the fireflies as well. ; )

Daddy and I(mostly daddy) just built the kids this fort that we put back in the woods a bit from old pallets. Lonnie even reused the nails from the pallets as well. Such a clever man. Prince C is uses it the most. It's perfect to go with his camp out theme I think.

As you can see it's a great place to play and hide.

The run down on his outfit, the top is the Sketchbook shirt form Oliver + S and the shorts are form their Field trip cargo pants. The shorts are sewn a stretch twill. I not so sure I will use the stretch twill again for this pattern due to the cargo pockets stretching a bit. They do look fine but it wasn't the most fun to sew. Both top and bottoms are 18m size, both are big on him but at least I know they fit for a while. He really wears about a size 12m still. I do think he does look so cute it though. : )

Well his party is Saturday and I have some more things to get in order!

Happy Sewing!

Come Sail Away With Me

My little girl is growing up very fast, too fast for me. The very first dress I ever sewn Sweet pea was a sailor dress. It is full of mistakes but oh how I still love that dress of hers! I have said for years that I would give another go at a sailor dress for her, one that didn't look, well, like it was sewn in the dark by two left hands. ; )
(warning! There is lots and lots of photos!)

This "Sail away" dress has whipped stitched piping in the princess seams (you know my princess love these seams!!) and has a dropped waist line with an invisible zipper in the back. The dress is not too fitted so it nice a cool for our hot weather here we are now having.  It has the sailor collar with a separate tie that goes under the collar. The sleeves are finished with a navy blue bias to match the collar and piping. Girly but not too frilly. I used some Out To Sea boarder fabric, perfect for a sailor dress and the white is Kona cotton.

I did make a fully lined bodice similar to that of the Fairy tale dress and it has full skirt on the lining as well, 84 inches so it nice full for twirling.

This will be her Forth of July dress this year, I am making Caspian his own little sailor outfit too! I can't wait to see him in his! My attempts this year is to make all five kids outfit for the four, yea I do know it's getting very close but I think I can pull it off, think.....

What pattern is this you ask? It's mine! Yep, I made a pattern and it came out alright! I am pretty happy with this dress and so is Sweet pea. A win, win for the two of us. I not sure if you would call this a size 4 of 5 but it does fit her very well. The collar was the most fun to get the fit right. I think I can still do some tweaking to it.

After I do finish up on the Forth of July sewing my summer sewing will be done other than a pair of shorts for Sarah. I do have plans to make myself a top and dress for the new Deer and Doe dress.  I have been living in my yellow all week, it so comfy and cool. I did also get two more quilt tops sewn together and I almost have Caspian's birthday sewing done as well, which is a good thing seeing party is this Saturday! (I am cutting it close again!)

Well as far as her dress goes I am thinking of one day making this into a real pattern, maybe I will sell a few. ; ) I'll have to wait and see.

So what are your summer plans?

Field Trip Tee's by the Threes

It's getting warmer here by the day and my little man is a growing so a few tee shirts were in order. I used a quick and easy favorite Tee shirt patter, the Field Trip tee.

It took my about hour to make all three shirt including the dinosaur appliqué so if you need some shirts in a hurry this is the pattern for you! These are all 12-18 month size for wee size almost two year old. The only change to the pattern is I added a 1/2" to the neck band length so it would fit better over Prince C big head. (small waist, short legs, big head lol)

It feels great to get some of my sewing list done. : )

I just might finish everything this summer.

Centaurée dress Sew-along

Deer and Doe is having a sew-along over on their blog right now for their new dress, Centauree' dress. I love how simple this dress is but yet it has so many great details to it as well. Perfect for a sun dress for me!

Pardon the pictures, my kids took them, but the bodice has a "star" shape to it, ever so clever f these gals! Now on my dress I had to make  FBA (full bust adjustment) to it. After having five babies these girls will not fit in most pattern tops. While the task seemed daunting Deer and Doe takes you through all the steps to make the adjustments. I was worried there for a few minutes that it might not work as well as it should but I held my breath a worked through each step slowly. It was totally worth it, the dress fits like a glove now! I really want to try another one in lawn or voile now. This one is in a quilting cotton I have held onto for a few years form Riley Blake. I love the yellow and gray together so much and with the weight of the fabric it does not blow up as easy so it great to wear to the park with the kids.

If you don't have this pattern I highly recommend it! It sews up very quick and has such wonderful results. I truly love the bodice of this dress and the straps, it's a perfect summer dress.

Rainy Day Sewing, getting beach ready!

Yesterday it rained and rained here so I figured if we are stuck in the house I might as well go ahead and start on some swim wear for the kids. Yes, I did already sew Sweet pea swim suit but I wanted to give it another go to see it I couldn't make one a little better.

First up is Prince C! I wanted something with a rash guard and bit more stylish than the run of the mill board short shorts so this is what I came up. I used two Oliver + S pattern for his swim wear. The top is a Field trip tee that I painted a star fish on from the Sandbox pattern. I have always wanted to put that little guy on a shirt! I do wish now that I made it in a smaller shirt size though. This top is a 12-18 months size, its prefect for tee's for him but big for a rash guard.  I know in the Sketchbook he wears the 18-24 months size so I thought this would fit the way I wanted it to, I really should have made a trial one first I guess but it will do. At least I have this pattern ready to make him some more summer tee's. I do love the way this pattern fits for regular tee's!

The shorts are a mod from the Sunny Days free pattern. I made the short panels into one piece instead of two and added button holes onto the waist band for a draw string tie. I also sized down to make these as well, 12-18 month size for him. Both the top and the bottoms are made out of denim swim fabric. This stuff is so neat! I talked Garrett into a pair of these swim bottoms as well but Wyatt said no way. (I didn't even bother asking Mr. Cool a.k.a. Jacob) Oh well, Garrett will be styling too.

Here is take two of Sweet pea's. I used the same pattern as the first for Peek-a-boo pattern shop. This pair turned out much better than the first so I think it's safe to say that I am getting the hang of these swim suits! Both were very quick and easy to sew too. Her's is made in the same denim swim fabric and is paired with polka dot fabric.

No wonky back on this one! Yippy!

At first she wasn't so crazy about it but it grew on her when she seen baby brother wearing his. I guess she didn't want to get left out.

I really feel like I am getting my list done for once and it's moving along at a very nice pace. I juts might get all my summer sewing done this year for once!

What can you make with left over farbic?

I recently made myself a dress using the Cloud 9 fabric Palos Verde but I saved every bit of scrap fabric from the left over pieces. I really don't ever buy fabric that cost this much but it was for a very special dress for myself and I don't ever order anything like this for me so I didn't want to throw a bit of it out. So I pulled out one of Sarah's favorite patterns,  the Oliver + S Fairy tale dress and worked some magic!

I was very careful in how I laid out the pieces, I did shorten the skirt a bit and made a narrow hem on it instead of the lovely hand stitched hem the pattern calls for but it was all worth it because it worked out! As you can see she is pleased as punch with these dresses too.

Other than the hem I did stick to the pattern this time around. I did leave of the tulle for the slip to keep the dress light and airy. This is also the very first Fairy tale dress that I was able to sew in day, I was very happy and surprised I was able to do this! I guess it gets easy to make with each dress. ; )

But wait there is more! Ella has a new matching dress too! I was able to size down the Fairy tale dress to fit her as well. I am pretty happy with the fit but I want to rework the collar some more, the final one on this one is still a bit big I think. (But at least it has a nice shape to it)

The Fairy tale pattern and this fabric were made for each other! I just love the way this dress looks on my baby girl. She looks so much older in I think. *sniff, sniff* She has grown so much.

Now I think Sweet pea and I need a mommy daughter date to show off our matching dresses!
