Want to learn how to smock?!

Well here is your chance! Ellie Inspired is hosting a Back to School smock along this month on her Facebook group. The pattern will only be $4 and you can even buy a kit or even just buy a smocking insert so it's great if you have always wanted to learn to how to smock.

Already know how to smock? Then you will have so much fun with this sew a long!

I bought a kit from Whimsical Fabrics myself,
Sarah picked it out all by herself. It even comes with e pre-pleated insert for the smocking which is great because I don't have a pleater....yet. ;-)

You can check out this page to see all the kits for the smock-a-long and even find just the pre-pleated inserts for sale too so you can pick out what ever fabric you like.

Please join along with us!

You can find Ellie Inspired Facebook page here for the smock-a-long join up.

  1. What design are you going to do on the pleated insert? I don't do FB so I can't see the details.

    1. It just going to be a simple smocking plate for this dress and not the Ladybugs. She has all her sew-a-longs and smock-a-longs on her Facebook group but I wonder if she will add them to her blog as well? I am pretty excited myself! I am also going to be trying some hand pleating too for a fall outfit for Caspian.

  2. I do want to do this. I wonder if I could fit in with the Halloween costumes. I need costumes done for early October. Thanks for sharing!

  3. So I just ordered a kit. I am afraid that I will blink and then my daughter will be thirteen and not want a smocked dress. I better learn now. I've only sewn one thing with piping and it didn't come out great. So maybe I'll learn to get better at that too.

    1. Yay!! Smocking is not really that hard and Laura will have videos to show everyone how to do it. I really love smocking myself, it so relaxing, I think you love too!

Which kit did you order? I just received
      mine in the mail today.

    2. I ordered the red country girl one. I am hoping my things arrive by Monday. Do you wash your ric rac or piping first. I'm not making the piping but piping is coming with it. I don't even know what a smocking plate is but does that get washed first? Thank you Sharon. I did take a smocking class but it was for the printed version (when you don't pleat). And it was only for two hours and I never ended up making anything.

    3. I love the colors on that kit too! My kit came in two shipping days after I received a shipping number from Danielle, so it's pretty quick. I did wash all my notions before hand too. Now the smocking plate is the pattern that the smocking will be on the pleated insert. It will be including in on the pattern, no need to wash up the pleated insert though, leave that as is. It's ready for the smocking to be done on it.
