The Penny Vintage Coat and Dress

I have been quite here on the blog lately, that means I have been working on a ton of surprises! So Here is the new pattern from Elli Inspired that I was able to help test this month, it the Penny Vintage Coat and dress pattern. It is for sale right now in the Bundle Up Sale on pattern Revolution.

I adore this coat! It is perfect for Sweet pea to wear over her dresses (just the right length on the skirt of the coat). This one will be worn over her Easter dress this year. I used a pastel blue stretch twill for the outer coat and matching flannel backed satin for the lining of the coat. I used purple piping that matched the knit dress to line the collar and the right side of the coat. The button are even the same lavender from the knit dress too. I sewn the tie of the coat to slightly stretch the twill so it makes it swirl into a lovely curl when tied.

The knit dress is very lovely too, it has a drop waist with a ruffle neckline and the neck line and sleeves are finished with a knit bias (love this!!) I will be for sure making a few of these dresses for her for summer time too. She even has some knit fabric already picked out.

The coat can even be interlined for the colder weather but we just lined ours for spring. Lucky for us the winter really has not been here this year so it works out great.

Recognize the hat and mittens?? My hat I crochet last year and missy's mittens form LTTS book. Both have gotten so much use out of them.

If you would like the pattern it is on sale right now in the girls Bundle up patterns.

The Lovely Red Wool Coat

I have been wanting to make Miss Sweet pea a red wool coat since she was born, yes really that long. ; ) The trouble is I was having a very hard time finding any wool and when I did it was the type more for dresses, skirts, suits...but not for winter coats. Then my lovely friend Sarvi found some for us at her local fabric store, thanks so much Sarvi! It's the perfect color and weight.
The lining of her coat is a plaid from Moda Wool and Needle line, I used a fabric that would pass down easily to little Prince C when he grows. I was surprised to find it at a local fabric store thee line and the color I wanted! Score!

The pattern is  the School Days coat from good old Oliver +S! It does take a bit of time to sew up but the instructions make it a breeze and fun to sew. I think this is the most satisfying pattern to make I own. It wears so wonderfully too.

In case you are wondering the pants are her After School corduroy, sadly these are so worn out and almost too small for her to wear them. I do need to make her two pairs for this winter.  The scarf is the most special though. It was mine when I was her age. It was so wonderful to pass it down to my daughter. *sniff, sniff*

and Sweet pea? She is totally in love it! She has worn it over a two weeks now, without the toggles until two days ago even. I think its' a winner for both of us.

Have a great Weekend!

Pattern Busting! School Days Coat for Prince C!

One of my New Year's resolutions is to sew through all the patterns I have bought and was gave to me. It's been real fun starting at them on the shelf and day dreaming what they will be when I sew them up but time to put them to use!

First on the list is the Oliver + S School Days coat. I was lucky to find this pattern in the paper print a while ago but it can now be bought as a PDF for the Oliver + S website. I made baby prince C one first seeing he didn't have a proper winter coat. My grandmother sent me this wonderful box full of lovely fabrics including this wonderful heavy weight plaid flannel. It works perfect for a coat. I lined this with royal blue fleece to keep little guy warm. (From my mom) and finished it with buttons my grandmother sent me a bit ago. I just love these buttons!

The pattern is rated a three scissors out of four but to my surprise it was really easy to sew, it was just a lot of pieces to sew together. It was so much fun watching this coat come together!

My first thought before I made this was to make the bigger size of 18months but with the help of the wonderful O+S ladies I decided to make the 6months size because this pattern tends run on the bigger size. I am sure glad I did make the smaller size too! This is big on him but not bad. I do hope it fits this next winter too. I really think it will too if he keeps growing like our other kiddos did.

I think the colors really suit he well too. He loves the soft outer fabric. He kept felling it after I tried it on him. He has good taste in fabrics too. ;)

Say aaaaahhhh!!

I had to add this one photo of him, see his two bottom teeth. :) He has a new top tooth too!

I will be making a few more of these too. Sweet pea has ordered one with some Pink corduroy with light pink fleece lining. (Thanks grandma again!!) and W and G want one too. I will make Sweet pea's up first to get just the right size for the two middle boys. The are skinny minis so I am sure the 3T will fit them I just need to add length to the sleeve and body of the coat. So I'll have too see.

I am not sure if I mentioned that this coat has an awesome lining in it!! I really love this part of the coat. It was so neat sewing this part. It's my favorite part of the coat I think. :)

Happy sewing!!

Sewing that last for longer than a Second

Remember this jacket?
It was from her Christmas outfit this year. When I first made I didn't think that it would go with much of her clothes seeing how most of them are pink. Much to my surprise it goes so well with a skirt/shirt outfit that I had made her last year!

The skirt is the same pattern as the jacket, the Sunday Brunch from Oliver + S. I added 2"s onto it so it would fit her longer. I am so glad I did this!

Don't you just love this face!

The top is a black Hopscotch top that I made from an old dress sitting in my closet that I never wore. It did make a cute little top better than it did a dress.

Here is a picture of Sweet pea when I first made the skirt for her. Wasn't she just a cutie? :)

A Winter Coat For Sweet pea

I finished this coat last week but I am just now sharing it with you ladies. I used the Oliver + S Sunday Brunch jacket pattern but made some of my own changes to it. :)
It if fully lined, inside and outside is a cozy fleece. Sweet pea just loves fleece! The coat wasn't lined before in the original pattern but was very easy to do. All I did was cut out two whole jackets out of the fleece. The front two piece of the jacket skirt was to be cut out with a rectangle slice out of it but I cut it out straight across. I then sewn up the two coats but only one with the collar then sewn them together the entire way around with leaving a 8" opening for turning. To finish it off all I had to do was stitch across the bottom of the coat skirt. Easy Peasy! Then I finished it off with some wooden buttons that is Sweet pea's FAVORITE buttons!
Here is a look at the inside, all nice and finished. :) I am very happy with the way the coat came out but a word of warning that the button holes were a big pain to make!! I was happy to finish them but I broke a my seam riper opening up the very last button hole. But other than that it was fun to make. :)

Happy Sewing!!! And onto Christmas sewing!!
